Denise, tell us a little bit about yourself (and Michael) and where you guys are located.
We are Lighting Designers and Producers and founded Lightmaker Studio (https://www.lightmakerstudio.com) in Toronto in 2014. Michael is an Industrial Designer, and our vision was to combine craft technique with modern lighting design. The Studio relocated to Kingston, Ontario in 2022.
At the Kingston production studio, each lighting piece we make is unique and made-by-hand.
We love living near Kingston. The people in Kingston are so friendly and the city has a vibrant arts and design scene. We are out on the water every weekend in the summer with our dog Frankie.
What is Lightmaker Studio?
After both having had careers in the technology business, we decided to return to our roots which is design. It is very satisfying to produce a uniquely Canadian product that is made to last.
We work closely with talented Canadian artists and craftspeople who produce many of our materials. Our glass is handblown, native wood species are hand-turned, and our brass finishing is done in small batches.
We work on residential and commercial projects with Interior Designers, Architects, Hotels, and sometimes Homeowners.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the business is seeing the young industrial designers, who come to us straight out of university, blossom in their career.
It is also an honour to be included as part of beautiful homes, hotels and architectural projects.
What does it take to be successful at what you do?
We’ve established a brand and a defined esthetic that our clients trust. It is the quality of our design combined with beautiful materials that we believe make us stand out.
How does CanSpace solve the objectives you have for your website?
Our website plays an integral role in communicating our design and products to our clients. Most of our clients are located far from the Studio, either in Canada, the U.S., or Europe.
